At the Springs Preserve, a variety of reptiles
can be found along our Trails.
Located in the center of Las Vegas and just a couple miles from the Las Vegas Strip, the Springs Preserve is a unique eco-island and remnant ecosystem surrounded by an urban sea.
The Preserve is home to more than 250 species of native wildlife, living in natural and restored habitats along our Trails and pathways. Across the park itself, find wandering ground squirrels, lizards and insects.
Spend enough time along our Trails, and you just might happen upon a greater roadrunner hunting lizards, a phainopepla foraging for mistletoe berries, or perhaps even a stealthy bobcat hunting ground squirrels.
Bird watchers are especially intrigued by the winged friends frequenting the Preserve's desert wetland, as species as diverse as the Western Screech-Owl, Hooded Oriole and Green Heron have been spotted at the Springs Preserve.
Though in our desert environs extreme temperatures can be too harsh for wildlife to be out in the open, you can still view numerous native species in carefully monitored and environmentally controlled live exhibits at the Origen Museum. There, we provide a close view of lizards, Gila monsters, cottontail rabbits and even a gray fox in its den.
