Event Information
- Date & Time: Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Most activities begin at 10 a.m. Last entry at 3 p.m.
- Location: Springs Preserve (Free parking at the Preserve, with overflow parking at Meadows Mall)
- Admission: *FREE for Nevada residents with valid ID. General admission fees apply to out-of-state visitors.
- RSVP: No reservations required. We recommend arriving early, as we expect a large turnout.
What better place to celebrate Nevada Day than at the Birthplace of Las Vegas? Join us for a free*, family-fun day as we honor the Silver State. Enjoy hands-on activities, arts and crafts, and museum and garden explorations.
2024 Nevada Day Celebration activities include:
- Nevada Ghost Town Storytime: Swing in to the Majestic Theatre at Boomtown 1905 to hear stories of various rough-and-tumble Nevada ghost towns.
- Nevada Pub-Style Trivia: Pub-style quiz on facts about Nevada. Live in the WaterWorks courtyard!
- Native Flower Seed Balls: Step into the Teaching Garden to create a seed ball using native Nevada wildflower seeds.
- Nevada State Insect Craft: Inside the Origen Museum, guests can participate in a craft to make the Nevada State Insect—the Vivid Dancer Damselfly. While there, be sure to check out all the Origen Museum has to offer, including the "Nevada Reflections: The Silver State in Black and White" photography exhibit and our Gift Shop!
- Nevada Flag Game: Drop in to the Cottonwood Room for a game to pin our state's flag symbols in correct places on the flag and learn what the symbols mean.
- Nevada License Plate Gallery and Craft: Explore vintage Nevada license plate designs and create your own license plate in the Cottonwood Room.
- Nevada Nicknames: Complete a puzzle activity in the Cottonwood Room to learn about the different nicknames attributed to Nevada.
- Nevada Gold Panning: Visit the Garden Classroom Amphitheater to recreate the early days of Nevada, where the territory started by placer mining for heavy metals near the Comstock Lode. Experience panning for "gold" (iron pyrite).
- Mt. Charleston Blue Butterfly: While you wait to enter the Butterfly Habitat, stop by the Frame House to learn about the endangered Mt. Charleston blue butterfly.
- Nevada State Museum: Nevada-themed crafts and discovery activities can be found inside the Nevada State Museum. There will be surprise pop-ups in the gallery and a new exhibit "Mapping Nevada: Tracing Nevada's Statehood Through Maps" will be open. Guests are encouraged to dress up in historical dress or as a state symbol!
- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Education Room: Explore hands-on learning and activities, including the Museum's education collection of artifacts and fossils.
- 11 a.m. in the Orientation Room: Learn about how Las Vegas has changed over the years, as Maggie Gaspar offers insights from her book, "Past & Present: Las Vegas." Book signing to follow outside the Museum Store.
- 1 to 3 p.m. in the Education Room: Get crafty with local folk-artist Vanessa Maciel and create your own replica of the official Nevada state artifact, the Tule Duck Decoy.
