Now in its 97th year, The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation's longest-running, most-prestigious recognition program for creative middle school and high school students. Since its inception, more than 13 million young people have participated in this program, which has given early recognition to such notables as Andy Warhol, Joyce Carol Oates, Truman Capote, Sylvia Plath, Richard Avedon, Kay Walkingstick, Steven King, Zac Posen and Lena Dunham.

The Springs Preserve is proud to host this competition for Southern Nevada. Regional gold key winners are forwarded to the national competition. At the national level, 15 graduating seniors who earn Gold Keys for portfolios can win $10,000 scholarships. All national award winners are honored at a ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June 2020.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards program is administered by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, a not-for-profit organization with the mission to identify, motivate and validate the next generation of artists and writers.
